DIRECT ENTRY INTO 200 LEVEL, NO JAMB REQUIRED
LAST UPDATED: August 9, 2026
JUPEB (Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board) is a one-year advanced level program that lets you gain Direct Entry admission into a Nigerian university without writing JAMB. It's a strong option if you didn't score high enough in JAMB, or missed admission into your preferred course or university.
At universities like Osun State University (UNIOSUN), the JUPEB application form is typically released around August or September, with the deadline often extending to December or January.
After applying and paying fees similar to 100-level fees, you begin a 9-month intensive academic program covering advanced-level subjects related to your intended course. This isn't JAMB coaching. It's a focused, in-depth study program that prepares you for actual university work.
At the end of the program, you write an external examination set by the JUPEB board, covering three core subjects. Your results are graded in points, and these points determine your eligibility for admission into 200 level.
Each course has a required minimum point score:
Your admission depends more on your JUPEB score than your original JAMB result.
If you're aiming for UNIOSUN, it's best to register and complete JUPEB at UNIOSUN itself. Universities tend to prioritize students who did their JUPEB program in-house, so doing JUPEB elsewhere (e.g. UNILAG or OAU) and trying to transfer may reduce your chances of admission there.
Once you pass the JUPEB exams, you apply for Direct Entry (DE) into your chosen university. If admitted, you begin as a 200-level student, skipping 100 level entirely.
Even if you didn't get into UNIOSUN through JAMB, you can still apply through JUPEB, complete the program, and gain admission the following session without rewriting JAMB.
JUPEB is challenging, but doable with regular class attendance, good study habits, and commitment. Many students have successfully used JUPEB to enter competitive programs.
You only need your O'Level result (WAEC, NECO, etc.) to apply. No JAMB result is needed.
